The grid is the visual representation of a Sudoku puzzle. In a standard Sudoku, the grid has 81 cells in a 9x9 formation. There are several derived terms which include the word grid.

Empty grid
81 empty cells.
Starting grid
The state in which only the given digits are placed. This is the actual puzzle.
Solution grid
A grid in which all the cells contain a digit. It may be the solution to a particular puzzle, but it may also be a valid Sudoku grid used for other purposes.
Pencilmark grid | Candidate grid
A grid containing all remaining candidates.
