How to Find Sashimi Patterns

Myth Jellies has said that he uses coloring to help find them.

My crude method goes like this:

Mentally exclude one box at a time and look for the candidates in n lines occurring only at the intersections with n orthogonals assuming that the excluded box will comply with the rest of the pattern. On finding a hit, check if the candidates in the excluded box will provide a fin or Sashimi deduction.

Is this water-tight? Any there any other other search methods?
